Joan met the challenges of global isolation with the ‘wave era’ that saw them release new singles of their trademark alt-pop bops, tinged with the sweetest hint of '90s r&b influences, released on the first thursday of each month for most of 2021. the singles culminated into 2 eps titled ‘hi’ and ‘bye.’ the themes contrasted, one focusing on the beginning joys of relationships, while the latter connected to the difficulties and struggles.
