Born Without Bones - Dancer [Indie-Exclusive Blue, White & Yellow Vinyl]

The album that would become Dancer started taking shape at my house in Milford on Sunday afternoons. I moved my bed, my drawers and all my records out of my bedroom and into a spare room in the house. I enlisted a group of burly friends to help move my grandfather's upright piano up a flight of stars, set up a drum set partially in my closet, lined a wall with every amp I own and bought a 4 channel recording interface. My bedroom had become a home studio. I started waking up early every day to do some writing exercises. I took guitar lessons for the first time since I was a kid. I learned new chords. Up until 2018 I almost treated songwriting like a neat card trick I could pull out at parties, very often screwing up that trick and revealing the fraud behind the cards. I had let songwriting become a coping mechanism for when I was down in the dumps. I started approaching songwriting like my job. I wrote every night with a bottle of red wine and a bowl packed with freshly ground weed. I wrote some of the worst songs I’ve ever written but I was finishing them. Through those growing pains a new voice had started to emerge. I finally got through to that melancholy kid writing songs about failed relationships and convinced him to take his art seriously.
